iOS 8 is an advanced version of iOS7. ‘i’ stands for Internet and OS for Operating System. With an easy-to-use interface, amazing features and security at its core, iOS powers iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iOS 8 takes the flat iOS7 design and rounds it out with new features.
And therefore, we can expect this year’s mobile Operating System update to have a theme of “convergence” to tie everything together!
1. Messages
Now, when you have to reply a single word, you need not launch messages. Just slide down the banner and you can type your reply right from where you are! This goes for Facebook pages too. You can comment or like a post without leaving the app you are now in. If you want to ignore the notification then just slide it up and it goes away while you are still on the same app.
Also, you can send voice messages. Simply touch and hold the new microphone button to record your message
It is also easy to send group messages. Just drag and drop who you want to add and leave the conversation whenever you want to. And just slide on ‘Do not disturb‘ when you do not want to read your messages and get back to the messages after you are done.
2. Quick type technology
You can write entire sentences with a few taps. Quick type supports predictive typing suggestions. As you type you get suggestions for the next word you might want to type. If someone asks you “Do you wanna go for a dinner or movie”, it suggests dinner or movie and all you have to do is just tap either on “dinner” or on “movie”.
3. Continuity
Now you can start writing an email on your iPhone and pick up from where you left off when you sit down at your Mac. It all happens automatically when your devices are signed in to the same iCloud account. And so, you can pick up on your iPad from where you left on your iPhone. Suppose, you are working on your iMac or iPad and you get a call on your iPhone, with iOS 8 you can answer the call from your working place using iMac or iPad
4. HealthKit
Health kit provides a single space where the applications (a pressure meter, glucometer, or other health monitoring meters) can communicate. A composite profile is then made with all the data. The profile is then compared with the patient’s pre stored thresholds. When iOS 8 detects an emergency from the monitored values, it can also proactively trace the near by available doctor or hospital and call for an emergency.
5. Siri feature
This is something very similar to android’s “OK GOOGLE”. When your device is in dormant state, you just have to say “Hey siri” to wake it up. For the ‘Siri’ feature to work the device has to be plugged in unlike Google, where android responds even when the battery is dead.
6. Family sharing
Family sharing allows about six members of the family to share data in common. This is a great solution to the problem of kids downloading paid apps on their parent’s credit cards. With this feature, parent gets notified about every purchase and they can grant or deny the purchase. With the feature “Family sharing” you can also find the location of your friends and kids devices.
7. Spotlights
iOS 8 brings up Wikipedia, App Store and iTunes results for anything you are searching for. Spotlight knows what topics are hot. And as what’s trending changes, the list it gives you does, too. Feel Hungry? All you have to do is just enter the name of a restaurant, and Spotlight will show you one nearby, including the phone number and hours it’s open. You can tap right there to go to maps.
8.iCloud
People are taking more photos and videos than ever. When your photo collections grow, so does the desire to store them all safely and still access them whenever and wherever. Every photo and video you take now lives in iCloud — giving you the freedom to access your library from any device, anytime you want.
