People take pictures all the time. It’s not uncommon to find people snapping shots of everything—from pictures of themselves (called selfies) to shots of their breakfast. The internet has made it easier for people to communicate–not only with words but with pictures.

The advent of social media sites that host photos has made this form of communication possible. Social media giants Instagram are experts at this. And they made it even easier for photos to be hosted online with Instagram for PC.

Uploading photos online in sites like Instagram has grown into a worldwide obsession. Millions of people upload millions of photographs every single day. Increase Exposure and Make your Images Brighter/Warmer

For most people, they just take photos without considering light conditions. The result is an image that’s dark and grainy. To remedy this, there are several filters that can brighten up your shots:

  • Amaro Filter—increases exposure but dulls the center of the photo. Amaro is best used in dark photos that need a lot of light to brighten.

  • Rise Filter—another filter that increases exposure. But Rise also tends to give the photo a yellowish glow. Consider this filter for cooler toned photos you want to warm up with a yellow or orange tinge.

  • Toaster Filter—adds some shine to the center of the photo. Think of this as sort of the opposite of Amaro. Toaster is perfect for outdoor shots.

  • Nashville Filter—gives a reddish/pinkish hue to your pictures. Nashville looks great when used with photos with a clear blue skyline.

  • Kelvin Filter—accentuates the warm colors of your photos in rather subdued hues.

  • X-Pro II Filter—makes colors jump out. X-Pro II increases color contrasts and also gives off a warm yellow hue to images.

Filter to Make Pictures Cooler

Again, people don’t think too much about lighting conditions when taking pictures. There are also pictures that are over-exposed. The result of which is a very sharp image that’s unappealing. Cool filters are the solution for super-sharp images:

  • Hudson Filter—makes the light colder but still accentuates it at the same time. Hudson gives pictures a dodged center and elevates the shadows.

  • Sierra Filter—perfect for outdoor shots. It actually filters the brightness of sunlight, giving it a more soothing and peaceful effect.

  • Earlybird Filter—gives the impression that pictures were taken at break of light. Earlybird softens the brightness of light exposure.

  • Sutro Filter—gives creepy shadows to photos. Sutro is perfect if you want your picture to exude a horror vibe.

  • Branan Filter—brings out all the cool blue colors. Pictures start looking more metallic with the Branan Filter

Artsy Effects

Aside from brightening or darkening photos, filters are also great for giving pictures an artsy feel. Several filters are available that transforms regular photos into works of art:

  • Lo-Fi Filter—great at dulling really sharp images. Lo-Fi can give your photos an artsy low fidelity feel.

  • Inkwell Filter—renders images into monochrome. Sometimes, images just look better in black and white.

  • Walden Filter—creates blurs and streaks. Walden also adds a bluish tone to your images.

  • Hefe Filter—makes images look softer with a Lo-Fi feel. Here also accentuates light and gives it a bluish tone.

  • Valencia Filter—automatically makes your photos look vintage.

  • 1977 Filter—like Valencia, 1977 also gives photos a vintage appeal. But 1977 actually gives images a faded look.

Don’t settle for mediocre photos. Spice things up by applying filters on them. It creates a whole new dynamic in the way pictures are uploaded online. These filters not only serve an aesthetic purpose but also enhance the quality of your images. You’ll surely have your hands full with the filters we featured above. Start experimenting and see what filters work best with your photos. The sky’s the limit with the possibilities you can create using these photo filters.
