As a child a question like, “How big is your house?” would have incited an innocent reply, “BIG”. From a child’s point of view, ‘big’ can range from 200 square feet to 2000 square feet! And as an adult specifications matter a lot. We all fuss over these specifications. While investing in real estate or refurbishing the house these crucial specifications always crop up. But how do you know the builder is not pulling the wool over your eyes? Or, how much paint would you require to paint those walls? Or, how many tiles would be needed to be fitted to the floor? Is a measuring tape a staple product you prefer carrying everywhere? No! Then I am sure you are almost inseparable from your iPhone. If that is the case, then it’s time to put all your woes to rest. Locometric would make your life easy with RoomScan.
What is RoomScan?
It is an app catered to the Apple phone or tablet users which creates floor plans when the device is gently tapped on the wall. This simple gesture would reward you with wall lengths and floor space. Moreover, the shape of the room doesn’t hamper the results. It can be a rectangular or square or an L-shaped room, RoomScan is prompt to reply accurately (almost).
Is it accurate?
Roomscan makes no claims to be precise. In fact, it claims to calculate to the nearest half a foot. Thus, RoomScan is well-suited for single rooms. If you want to see the floor plan of the entire place materializing on the screen, then you need to upgrade to RoomScan Pro which automatically knits the entire floor plan, after walking around the place. RoomScan gives you a near perfect (inexact millimetres) floor plan of the room (which is satisfactory). For the exact figures, RoomScan Pro would come in handy.
How does it work?
As mentioned earlier, gently tap the device on the wall and also walk around the room with the device in hand. The process involves waiting for a wall to be scanned until moving to the next one. And in case you are clueless about how to go about it, the instructions are voiced out loud and clear. All you have to do is follow them. This would record and give you a rough sketch and a near accurate figure. This app runs on the inbuilt hardware of an Apple device. One can manually feed in their own measurements and consider doors and windows (without having to drag and drop them) in the Pro version of the same.
It works only on Apple?
Unfortunately, yes! Apple device with motion sensors running on iOS 7 or higher are the only members of the RoomScan club.
Hit or Miss?
