Google has added a new feature to its Map application. This feature is called as “Public Alerts”. As a part of the Crisis Response Project, Google Map’s public alert feature is designed to provide users with emergency alerts in and around of your surrounding area. Currently the service is online and you can check out this link. The below image indicates the public alerts generated for the Japan region. You can see the Earthquake alert indicated with an orange colored icon over the region that is currently affected. Public alerts also tells you how long the alert has been active for and for how long it will likely to continue. Other than Earthquake alerts, they also added Weather alerts, Wind storm alerts as well.
