Flies like a bird, clicks like a photographer – Nixie will stir up a revolution in the world of selfie

Updated on January 28, 2015

Like it, hate it, but we all have to live with it. Selfies have become that famous these days that to live without the sight of it is unimaginable. Songs depict it, virtual platforms are set up for it, newer technologies are being invented to accommodate it, they are all over the place. In the cafes, movies, driving, think of a place, the place probably is being captured in a selfie at this very moment.

A concept born of a simple idea-self service is the best service, has come in handy for each one of us at various point in time. I appreciate it and I am sure, you do it, as well (bear with it if you don’t). But, there is this one part of selfieng which I just so not like-the arm (which distinguishes a selfie from a non-selfie). To eradicate the arm bombing my selfie, I usually perch my cam on a tripod. Yes, this indeed results in ravishing pictures of self (excuse the narcissism), but then, there are places where a tripod cannot be set. Imagine while mountaineering or, while bicycling or, think of a museum (I won’t dare to set a tripod there, it’s embarrassing, you see), think of occasions and places where  neither a hand nor a tripod can capture a picture of you. What then? A lost opportunity? Why, haven’t you heard of Nixie yet?

Nixie
Will you wear it?

A watch like thing when unclasped flies away to take a picture of you only to come back. Are you dreaming? How is that even remotely possible? It was one of the finalists (which went on to be the winners) at the Intel Make it Wearable Challenge, therefore, I can assure this to be no dream.

Meaning, Nixie is just a vision?

Christoph Kohstall, a Stanford genius and the maker of Nixie presented a prototype of it at the competition. Meaning, it is no vision.

We all need drones taking better pictures of the world with us in it. Therefore, let’s earnestly pray for Nixie’s success.
