Oppo Find 7 – The Teasers, Trailers and Official announcement!

Updated on March 24, 2014

Oppo Find 7 was long in the rumour land and was recently official. The phone had some speculation around it and was determined to be a 50MP shooter developed by Oppo, much a competition to the 41MP shooters of Nokia- the Lumia 1020 and the 808 PureView.

But with the official announcement, the camera at the back was found to be only an 13MP. Let’s start with the teasers and trailers of the phone that was put up. The phone was not announced at MWC (Mobile World Congress) held at Barcelona. It was announced a few days back and there are videos of the unboxing and UI demos popping up in youtube, which means that the phone was bought by a lot of people as soon as it was released.

OPPO Find Creative Invitation

The invitations for the Find 7 event were one of a kind, and involved an unboxing. Though the phone was not present, there was a pyramid like thing, which is used to view the video. There are two bar codes- one for iOS and one for Android and you can view the video, only through the pyramid. How cool is that?

Here is the video of that:

Leaks and Rumours

The first rumour came about on July 2013. Oppo released an image of the Find 7 when it was going to be under production. It was an upgrade to the already present Find 5.

The specs that were rumoured at that time were the following- a Snapdragon 800 chipset. The rear camera was to be a 13MP and the front was an amazing 8MP resolution overtaking the Canvas 4. Internal storage of 32GB, mega battery of 4000mAh, running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, four Krait cores clocked at 2.3GHz, 5″ 1080p screen. The pre-order rates were around $700.

Snapdragon 805 chipset?

The Oppo Find 7 was the first advanced device to use the Snapdragon 805 chipset when others were using only the 800. But that was only a rumour. The amount of RAM present in the device was speculated to be around 3GB when most of the devices running Android had only 2GB of RAM, but then Samsung came along with the Note 3 making it the first device to feature a 3GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 805 chipset was ahead of its competition with it being able to multitask without a hassle and so on. The display resolution was expected to be 5.7″ rather than the previously speculated 5″ with QHD (2560×1440 display resolution).

50 MP Camera

The Oppo Find 7 was said to feature a 50MP sensor on board and not similar to Nokia’s oversampling method, the phone actually takes an image at 13MP and through zooming, provides an image similar to the 50MP sensor. Though, the noise and other pixellations might occur due to the super zooming, that was not the case with this camera. Maybe it is just a marketing gimmick much like the 64 bit processing on the iPhone 5S.

The display resolution on the Weibo account showed the name as Oppo Find 7 (the EXIF file) and the display resolution was 8160×6120, which means that the camera was a 50MP. But lately, that was not the case. The Find 7 included a super zoom feature which made it to be like a 50MP shooter.

Official Announcement

Oppo released the Find 7 with a QHD display and the size of the display is an amazing 5.5″. The resolution of the screen is 2560×1440 making it the first phone to feature a QHD display. The pixel density is a whooping 538ppi. The name of the display technology is Super Screen 2.0. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top and can be operated with hands that are wet as well as with gloves. There is a Snapdragon 801 chipset under the hood clocking the device at 2.5GHz. There is a 3GB of RAM, Adreno 33GPU. The primary camera is 13MP CMOS Sensor from Sony and not much like the rumours proposed, the camera at the front is a 5MP. There is a mode called Super Zoom, which will actually take ten photos and merge them into one making it like a single 50MP shot. There is a breathing notification below the display which displays text messages, missed calls and so on.

There is another version of the oppo Find 7 termed the 7a, which will actually feature downgraded internals leaving the camera and the chipset alike. RAM is 2GB and the internal storage is around 16GB. ColorOS 1.2 powers the Find 7 and the manufacturer partnered with many Banks of China to bring about faster NFC payments to 250 POS enabled devices. The QHD version packs a 3000mAh battery while the FullHD version packs a 2000mAh battery. Oppo also released a wrist watch dubbed O-band which can help you record your sleeping patterns, fitness and many other things. The QHD Find 7 is priced at 3498 CNY and the Full HD version is priced at 2998 CNY.
