R18 Ultra, a comfort chair designed with the help of Audi’s Design Centre

Updated on May 16, 2012

A German based company has designed a hi tech chair that was analyzed by recording the stress points of thousand butts. The company placed a chair at the center of the palazzo in Milan , which had a sensor attached to record the stress points and positions of a person who sits on the chair. The system monitors and records the data and uses an algorithm to determine the most structurally efficient version of the chair. The aim of the test is to design the most light weighted chair that can provide an ultimate comfort to the person who sits on it. According to the reports, the company had worked with the Audi’s Design Centre and used the technology of future automotive. The chair will be called as “R18” Ultra featuring carbon composite seat, a carbon-rubber composite back rest and aluminium alloy legs. The product is set for a debut in Design Miami later this year.
