This Solar Power System Built for Social Cause – MobileMill from WindStream

Updated on March 20, 2015

In case of dire emergencies, a calamity or an accident perhaps, a flood, a tsunami, a hurricane, a landslide or a man-made conflagration, an entire area is demolished. There will be people fighting for their lives, an immediate shut down of electricity and a lot of hubbub. This immediate deprivation of electricity will make it harder to rescue survivors as it becomes tougher to find them.

There are services in the form of drones that provide immediate medical toolkits for assistance, services that alert nearby pharmacies in case of emergencies. As for electricity provision, WindStream technologies have proposed a new solution – the MobileMill. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security have cerebrated much to provide electricity in these situations and requested Windstream technologies for this solution. The MobileMill is a portable trailer which harvests both power from the sun and the wind when other sources have failed during emergencies.

Like MobileMill, WindStream has another product called SolarMill. The SolarMill is used for harvesting solar power using pholovoltaic panels for solar power absorption and uses rotating turbines for production of power. All this is built into a single product called the SolarMill. The MobileMill’s power unit is devised based on SolarMill’s technology.

Both solar power and wind power is contingent to nature’s behaviour. One cannot find sun at the night and one cannot predict when wind would blow. But these are the only two sources that can be relied on when there is a calamity and there is no other way of getting power supply. The MobileMill can provide upto 4kW of energy which has been stored using these renewable sources. The trailer is constructed of stainless steel and alluminium. This trailer can be attached to any vehicle.
