Have you ever searched for the contact number of your friend? I know that sounds odd in this social media generation, but what if you don’t have him under your contact list? And now, from the other side, what if you wanted to avoid a spammer calling you and identify the person behind that number? Hmm..that’s where ‘Truecaller’ comes to your pocket. Truecaller, a service from True Software is a global phone directory to find people from all over the world; either by name or phone number. It’s a cross platform application that contains every phone number like the big telephone directory has. Truecaller app is available for Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, iPhone and Nokia Symbian.
Using the app is pretty simple, as it has a clean layout with search box at the middle and pushing buttons at the bottom. Once the app is installed, you can simply look-up the directory by entering name or number and address. Interestingly the app connects with your contacts, syncs and lets you update their information like street address, locality and zip code. For those disturbing numbers, you can add into the Call Filter and tag them as spam as well as block them out. ( You can checkout the list of blocked numbers by simply tapping Top Spam.)
The Truecaller’s users help the service by sharing their contacts to create a vast global directory. Well, not many would be willing to share their contacts, but contributing is optional. Here’s an interesting video created by Truecaller that explains how the service actually works.
