CometDocs -probably I can say, a one stop solution for all your document management. CometDocs is an online service that lets you to manage your documents, convert them into 50 different formats and share them easily with anyone. CometDocs homepage features a big gray box called ‘Clipboard” on which you can start to upload your files. When the files are uploaded to CometDocs, you can choose to perform actions like; Convert, Transfer, Store and Host. Let’s learn more about those actions after a short break.
Convert your documents or files into 50+ formats
You will have to click “Add or Drop Files” button to upload your files to CometDocs. When you are done, click the ‘Convert’ tab and drag files to the left field, choose the conversion type and click the green ‘Convert’ button. You can convert PDFs to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, HTML, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIF, TXT, ODP, ODS, ODT, ODP, DFX and DWG formats and viceversa.
Share Files
Either you are a registered or unregistered user, CometDocs will let you to share files with anyone in web. To do that, click “Store” tab, select the file you wish to share and click “Share” icon located just above the file list. You can choose to share the file with public, share it with other CometDocs users or keep them private. If you are an unregistered user, you will get a shared linked of the file, which will be valid only for 24 hours. But the registered users can share their files indefinitely. More importantly, the registered user can fine tune the sharing privacy options as well.
File Transfer
You can transfer files to your friends via CometDocs. If you are an unregistered user, you can transfer files with the daily limit of 100MB per IP address and the transferred URLs will be valid only for 24 hours. However a registered user can send files up to 100MB daily, but the transfer URLs will be valid up to three days or store your files in CometDocs to keep the transfer URLs valid indefinitely. In this case, the transfer URLs will be valid until the corresponding file is made private or deleted.
Host Files
CometDocs will let you to store files of almost any format except .exe. Being a registered user, you can store files worth of 1GB freely. The service will also allow you to change the metadata, store multiple versions of the same document, share and organize them into folders. Using the “Host” tab, the users can share files with their friends on Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus.
Free Vs Premium service
CometDocs offers both the free and premium services; the advantage of premium services are, you can do any number of conversions, increased data storage & link visibility, send larger files, sharing URLs valid for longer time, preview the PDF files within the service and a support for performing OCR conversions.
Few glitches…
Drag and Drop of files didn’t work as expected
Soon after seeing the gray clipboard box on the Home page with a label “Add or Drag files”, I was eager to drag and drop few files to try out the service. But unfortunately the browser just previewed the file and didn’t upload it to CometDocs.
Sample PDF to Word conversion was not convincing…
I tried converting a sample PDF file into DOC format and found the texts were unreadable. Below are the images of the original PDF file and the converted doc file.
