Online video converter is a free tool that helps in converting audio and video files from one format to another. There are many video converters out there which will promise the video conversion but are rather heavily priced and some are fake. But one such utility is there Format Factory or FF. It is simply stunning. The formats covered are very wide. And that can be used to play a video on your iPod or PS3 which would’ve other wise not played. Today I will talk about online video converter and its advantages and disadvantages.
User Interface
The User interface is very friendly and there are a lot of formats supported. The application supports both the video and audio file conversion. The video formats supported are AVI, MPEG, MP4, FLV, Android, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, BlackBerry etc…Wait! Aren’t these companies, you might think. But Apple requires some specific format to play the videos, especially the older iPod. You can choose a file from your computer or you can choose from any cloud hosting site like Skydrive, Dropbox and Google Drive.
The audio formats supported are MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, MP2 and AMR. There are also the iPhone formats and others supported for your ringtones. There is a file size slider in the side which I don’t know how it works. There are various options and the range of file size is from 10MB to 1000MB. In that around 10Mb is assumed to be the worst quality and moving on to 116MB will give you a lower quality video. Moving up further and around 607MB will give you optimum quality and above 700MB will give you the best quality.
Conversion
The conversion actually takes a long time for the video file. The audio conversion doesn’t have any file size slider and is relatively easy to use. The conversion is also seamless and there is no loss in quality as well. For video files, there is an option for resolution presets to define the output quality (same as source, higher or lower).
Advantages
- Easy to use
- User friendly UI
- More standard formats
- Import files from Cloud Storage.
Disadvantages
- No MKV support
- More file formats missing.
- Took a while to convert
Conclusion
The video converter is user friendly but could’ve been more better in the video department. The audio department doesn’t need any changes.
