Have you ever wondered, how to change the name of Bluetooth devices in iOS? A pre-defined name of the Bluetooth devices will be saved on your mobile and till now there is no way to change the name of it. For e.g. E779 BH-106, J20i, E2232 etc…The difficulty here is, it is not easy to find out which device the name corresponds to, until and unless the Bluetooth device it self had a meaningful name. I know it is annoying, but luckily user hondavtec@iphonewzealand has found a way to change the name of Bluetooth devices in iOS.
Here’s the tip after a short break.
Note: Your device should be have been Jail broken to gain access to its local files.
Step 1: Go to “var/mobile/Library/Preferences” and copy the file “com.apple.MobileBluetooth.devices.plist” to your computer.
Step 2: Open the copied file with Property List Editor and search for the Bluetooth device that you wish to change the name by opening the BT MAC address(es) and set a new device name under “Name” (not DefaultName)
Step 3: Save the file and put it back on your device. You will have to overwrite the existing file and verify its permission as well (It should have permission as 600).
Step 4: Reboot the device. That’s it.
