Android 4.4 KitKat, the buzz is around quite sometime and Nexus 5 is the first device to get it running. Google hinted that the latest operating system will be made available to recent variants of Nexus devices, Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One. If you own any other device, then you may have to keep an eye on this page, that will tell you the approximate time frame of when the update is available. For now, if you own Nexus 7 (2012 0r 2013 model with Wi-Fi only) or Nexus 10, then here’s a great news; Google started giving update to these devices. For those who are not willing to wait for the official OTA for your device and want to try out the new operating system right now, then you have landed on the right page.
Disclaimer: The procedure and the update will only work for WiFi only device. Also try out the steps at your own risk, Techglimpse is not responsible for any damage that may cause to your device.
Get ready with these…
* As I told earlier, you should have Nexus 7 (2012 or 2013 model) or Nexus 10 with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. As a caution, the update may not work if the device is not running fully stock ROM.
* Android SDK installed for ADB access.
* Enable USB debugging.
* Android 4.4 KitKat downloads.
Install Android 4.4
Step 1: Connect your device to your computer via USB.
Step 2: Reboot the device into recovery mode, and place it in ADB sideload mode. (Apply update from adb on stock recovery; could be named differently and placed in some advanced menu on custom recoveries.)
Step 3: Launch command prompt or terminal (based on your system OS) and navigate to the location where the OTA file is downloaded.
Step 4: Execute the below command.
adb sideload filename.zip
Note: Remember to replace the filename.zip.
Step 5: When the process is done, reboot the device to load Android KitKat.
