Running multiple GTalk instances for 2 or more accounts

gtalk_multiple_instanceGoogle’s instant messenger is known as  GTalk which is gaining popularity day by day due to its lightweight, less resource killer and stunning voice chat quality.

If you have several Google Gmail accounts you also may want to run multiple instances of Google Talk This is especially important for families that share a single PC. Nothing worse than a family member signing you out so they can sign in under their own account!
Basically, to have “Google Polygamy” you need to run Google Talk with the following switch: /nomutex

Here, I will share a tip/hack to make multiple instances of gTalk and launch for using with multiple accounts.

Steps to make multiple instances of gTalk

  • Make a copy of gTalk shortcut icon on your desktop
  • Right click the shortcut and click on properties in contextual menu
  • In the target text box, change “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /startmenu to “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex
  • Click on OK and you are done
  • Now you can launch multiple copies of gTalk by clicking the gtalk shortcut icon
