Thanks to E-Commerce technology, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is out for sale ahead of schedule. There was some speculation as to the Indian release date of the Ultra being as late as 31st of July, but infibeam.com cleared those rumors. Infibeam.com is an online shopping portal which has made the Ultra available for purchase at 45,990 INR, or 46 K for those who like to round off the figures. Sony, just like any other smartphone producer in the market, has been trying to even the odds and tip the market in their favor by concentrating their focus on the Xperia Z series by adding more handsets to the line.
Sony seems to be pulling all the stops on this one. The Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.4 inch display to begin with, which is arguably the largest in the smartphone market. It is rumored that this is even larger than Samsung’s next release in the Galaxy Note series: the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. A little piece of trivia – smartphones with big screens (close to, if not 5 inches at least) are called Phablets. In other words, phones that look like or are large enough to be tablets. Sony promises that the big screen isn’t even the Z Ultra’s best feature! Here’s a list of the other less blatant goodies under the hood:
• 6.4inch TFT Capacitive Touch Screen
• 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera
• Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
• 2.2 GHz Quad Core processor
• Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G and NFC
• Bluetooth and USB
• 3000mAh battery
• 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory
It is open to speculation as to why Sony reduced the primary camera to a meager 8 MP as compared to the 13 MP of predecessors. The 16 GB internal memory is now expandable to up to 32 GB with the use of an external memory card, this is a feature that we haven’t seen in an Xperia in a while. Will Sony make it big in the market with bigger sized screens? Is bigger really better? We’ll leave the answers to you. One thing’s for sure, though – if you’re going after a phablet, make sure you have deep pockets.
