One of the biggest highlights for the Indian smartphone market this month is the release of the much awaited Micromax Canvas 4. The Indian phone manufacturer has been working wonders in terms of sales figures ever since their Canvas series of handsets took off, especially the Canvas 2, which is very much worth mentioning. It is safe to say that the Canvas series has taken Micromax to a whole new level in terms of gaining a reputation among users, although this also means that they have graduated to a higher level of competition from existing giants like Samsung and Sony.
The pre-booking for the Canvas 4 has closed, owing more to shortage of handsets than anything else. Centers in the north are already facing “complaints” from eager customers for not having enough handsets on the shelf. This time around, Micromax seems to have loaded their latest product with a few upgraded features that are almost too good to be true when it all comes at a price of just below 20 K. The show stopper feature on this handset seems the whopping 13 MP primary camera, which is usually a feature that belongs to handsets of the 30,000 INR and above budget class. The front camera has also been upgraded to not 3 MP, but an awesome 5 MP camera. The screen size has been retained similar to other Canvas models (5 inches) but the body of the handset itself has some distinct changes. A metal finish has been added and the Canvas has been made to look sleeker, the volume rocker and other buttons on the sides mimic the design on Apple devices. The other features remain the same as is the norm with Android equipped phablets.
The USB/charger socket has been shifted to the bottom of the device. One fun gimmicky app that comes pre-loaded on the handset is the Micromax lock app. This app enables you to unlock the device simply by blowing at it! Fun, yes but it does seem like something we might grow tired of down the long run. The internal memory has been boosted up to 16 GB expandable using a microSD card. Like all Micromax devices, the Canvas 4 also comes with dual SIM capabilities. Two and two equals four, but is the Canvas 4 really twice as good as the Canvas 2 and its predecessors? We’ll just have to wait for the next shipment to hit the shelves to answer that.
