Nokia X is recently released and Nokia says that 75% of all the Android apps are compatible with its new devices- the X series of phones namely the Nokia X, X+ and the XL. They run a customized version of the Standard Android and do not have standard Google Play services.
According to the flow chart below, 75% of the apps are ported to the Nokia X series of devices and only the rest (25% of them) need a “retouch”. If you are an Android Developer and you are very much interested in developing apps, download the Nokia X Services SDK and start developing and help develop the OS.
As you can see, Nokia takes its new move very seriously. The entire user interface of the devices are retouched and the fast-lane gives you an Asha like feeling. Giving a personal opinion, I never expected Nokia to give out an Android device, and that too being a first time device, with already most of the apps being ported to the phones. And that too, the version of Android being released is some what the latest. There is also a tool which will help you to determine whether your app will be supported on the X or not.
Here is a list of the apps that are missing from the Nokia store and apps which were got from a third party store.
As you can see, only few games are not available, also, the items marked with star available in third party stores. The searching of apps works like this – say you search for an app in the Nokia Store and its not found, the search is then taken over by a pre-installed third party app and the same keywords are put in automatically and if the app is available, the search returns or else you get a null element.
Nokia and SwiftKey are having talks and the keyboard is set to be integrated into the X and most likely into future handsets of Nokia. This is what the CEO of SwiftKey had to say:
“We are delighted to be collaborating with Nokia on their debut Nokia Store, a company renowned for its significant user base and impressive reach in emerging markets. This collaboration with Nokia demonstrates our ongoing commitment to bring SwiftKey’s personalized, adaptive technology to as many users as possible”
