For all of you who travel by your own vehicle every day on congested city roads, you have one more reason to thank your Smartphone. Tired of getting stuck in traffic jams and wishing you had a way to avoid it before you were in the middle of the jam? Your smartphone can now do the job, thanks to Blockout Traffic – a new Android App launched by Amidray. This Kochi-based start-up firm has created an application that can provide accurate information on traffic blocks within a 25 – 30 km radius of your location.
The Android application works by posting a “I’M STUCK” button to display the location of traffic blocks within your current location. The alert displays the time of the post as well which can be very helpful in taking a detour. The display of traffic blocks/jams within your location is just one of the features. This app is similar to an existing app in the US and Canada called Beat the Traffic which is very popular for a peaceful commute. No more hassles of getting delayed because of traffic jams and losing your cool because you’re stuck in a jam with no way out!
These apps work in co-ordination with the GPS device in your smartphone. The app pinpoints your current location using the GPS and scans your radius to identify traffic snarls and blocks and displays them on a map to help you get a complete picture and avoid unnecessary traffic hassles.
