Create a Guest mode on Jailbroken iOS to provide restricted access using iPrivacy

Updated on September 1, 2017

Sometimes you might need to share your device with your friend without letting access to all of your private data. But that’s not easy on an iOS device, because you don’t have a guest user account like you have in your Mac or PC. May be it doesn’t come by default, but you can get it done with a Cydia app called “iPrivacy”. If you own a jailbroken device, then you can right away start using iPrivacy; which lets you to add a guest mode with limited access. The app lets you to customize the settings, so that you can control the access to any app, folder or a feature. What’s interesting here is, iPrivacy lets you to enter the guest mode with a single gesture as well.

iPrivacy tweak will let you control access to folders and app

Once the app is installed, you can configure it to support several plugins, which is actually the brain behind the access control. Ok! wait, you need not run around in search of those plugins, because the tweak it self comes with set of plugins.

Once the app is launched, you will have to select a ‘Host’ pin code, which is actually the unlock code for the iPrivacy’s menu. To enable the guest mode, your device should have a passcode lock. If you don’t have one, then enable it by entering General section of the Settings app. To enter into the guest mode, the app comes with two options – by typing the iPrivacy code (Note by typing the iOS passcode, the device will unlock in normal mode, but typing the iPrivacy code will take you to guest mode). The other option is to use activator gesture; you can set the gesture using the app’s menu.

Here comes the key area, the plugins – each plugin that comes with iPrivacy has its own options and it is based on the app or a folder that you wish to protect. If you use a plugin to control the access to an app, then it lets you to restrict access to some features of the app or allows you to set a passcode for it. You will also find an option to prevent a stranger from deleting the app or moving it to a different location. iPrivacy’s default plugins lets you to control folders, the voice memos app, ipod app and notifications. iPrivacy is available on Cydia for download; both the free and premium version.
