The family of Android phones available at low-cost prices in India has a new member – the Gionee P1. The Company had earlier introduced a phone called the Dream D1 which was aimed at the higher price segments. The P1 has been launched formally by the company though it is yet to make an appearance on the company’s web portal. The company has not revealed an expected date of release or the phone specifications as well. However, the phone has been pitched at a price of Rs. 4,999.
Though the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is yet to release any concrete details regarding the phone specifications, we have a few details for you. The P1 will function on the Android Gingerbread OS and boasts of a 3.5 inch capacitative touch display though the screen resolution is a modest 320 by 480 pixels. The picture released has contradicted reports which stated the existence of a 2 MP rear camera as the picture clearly shows that the camera on the flip side is just 1.3 MP. The P1 supports video chat as well with its VGA camera positioned above the screen. If you like using your phone’s memory to the maximum limits, you may not get a lot from this one. The internal memory is just 512 MB and the external support cannot be extended beyond 16 GB which is a little less than the 32 GB external support offered by other smartphones in the same category.
Still, there’s no need to get all disappointed. The phone has the support of a 1 GHz Media Tek chip to boost its power and a 1500 mAh battery to keep it going. How long it will keep going is a mystery still as the manufacturers have not released details of expected talk time and standby. The phone can support two GSM SIMs, thanks to dual SIM slots and enables you to stay connected wherever you go with WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G options. The release date is not out yet, so keep your fingers crossed and wait for the release.
