The next time you step inside a restaurant, look around to find how many people are engaged in their phones. The lure of staying connected with the world seems more interesting than the person you are with. But we have simply not realized that humans now hardly converse face to face. Gadgets have become influential beyond necessity. In case you always blamed your kids to be addicted to their gadgets, you haven`t realized how addicted you are!

Interruptions are the scourge of modern life. All we hear is our gadgets buzz, ping and beep all day. Within moments we are completely distracted from anything we were doing.  Multitasking is simply overrated these days. If you ever thought you can do your work and text simultaneously, you are completely wrong! Switching between two tasks very often will simply exhaust you. It also decreases productivity.

Smart gadgets have already consumed more than half of a human`s lifetime now. But then gadgets have become an integral part of us that the very thought of separation makes you feel like the world around you is going to collapse any moment. It’s time we get a glimpse of the reality around you.

A little while away from your gadgets is what you will need to realize there is much more to this world. So do you want to abstain yourself from your gadgets for a while? Here`s what you can try

  • Take a walk: The next time you feel too obsessed to your gadgets, take a nice long walk around. During the walk resist the temptation to open your phone for notifications be it mails or from social media. Dedicate the entire time to enjoying the walk rather than peeping into your phone now and then. Make this a habit and this will give you some time away.
  • Go for books: Internet has brought every book from across the world to our desktops. This is one main reason why people stay close to their gadgets. Next time try your best to go for a hard copy of the book rather than the electronic version. You will get to the essence of the book much better now. Also this will shift your focus from wasting time on your gadgets for you have fewer distractions then.

  • Smart dinner: Make it a habit at home to leave your gadgets away while dining. This will give you a reason to build a conversation. Try discussing general happenings and things and enjoy your meal with your family.
  • Gadget free vacations: If you are one of those who hardly have a choice to evade from your gadgets, take a vacation once in a while. Let the vacation be completely relaxing and strictly no gadgets here. Keep all your projects and work away from your holiday .This will also revitalize your body and correct your sleep cycle.

Staying connected with the world is necessary. But do not over do.Remember, the problem is not with the technology but  with us.  Our inability to step away for unessential data and emails and games has made us incapable of looking up at the world and its folks.

It is very important for us learn how to live with a persistent connection irrespective of the place we go. Next time you don’t fall asleep look towards the sky that is a symbol of seamless beauty, rather than scrolling through notifications on your phone!
