Karbonn placed third in a top five list of smartphone manufacturers doing really well in the Indian market, and needless to say, they are doing everything it takes to stay there, if not move up the ladder. Hence the A8 – the next phablet (almost) for Indian pockets.
The A8 is a 4 inch capacitative multi-touch enabled smartphone with an entry level Jelly Bean operating system. It has been speculated that Karbonn will be taking on Micromax’s Fun series with this addition to their inventory. These phones will be available for purchase online from 6th September and interested third parties can also check out EMI schemes for the same. Unfortunately, for those who say “It don’t matter if it’s black or white”, they will be forced to choose between either one as the Karbonn A8 comes only in black and white color variants. The camera specs go like this – 5 MP primary rear facing camera accompanied with a 0.3 MP secondary front facing camera which look good for clicking pictures on the move, but if you’re looking to get a good self-portrait is better to use a mirror than rely on the front camera.
Karbonn’s trademark dual SIM feature stays, and the exterior looks reminiscent of the HTC Wildfire; not bad to look at, good to hold and a robust body than can take the occasional and hopefully accidental fall off the table. The rest of the features are pretty much mainstream, the internal memory housing up to 4 GB and extendable to 32 GB with a microSD card. The device is said to release at a price between 6 and 6.5K. Is it affordable? Yes. But is it better than the other smartphones already flooding the market by the tens and twenties? No comment.
