How to Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 4G With Redsn0w?

Updated on September 1, 2017

Apple has just released the final build of iOS 6.1 for all devices. Earlier devices like iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G can be jailbroken easily(tethered). But for something more (untethered) we will have to wait till sunday.

Incase your iOS device cannot jailbroken at the moment, we strongly recommend you to continue using the same version of iOS you are using now, until the jailbreak developer community updates us.

Follow the steps below at your own risk.

Step 1 :  If you haven’t updated iOS 6.1 yet (and are not currently jailbroken), navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and tap on Download and Install and Download iOS 6.0 firmware for your device from links give below.

Step 2 : Get the latest version of Redsn0w for Windows/Mac on your computer. Find the link below.

Step 3 : Extract the contents of the Redsn0w ZIP .

Step 4 : Launch redsn0w in Administrator mode (OS X Mountain Lion users must use Ctrl+Click > Open).

Step 5 : Select Extras > Select IPSW and select your iOS 6.0 IPSW file.

Step 6 : Come back to the mainmenu and click on “Jailbreak”. Make sure “Install Cydia” is selected and then click Next.

Step 7 : Choose “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode”.

Step 8 : Click back in RedSn0w, and Select IPSW to identify the 6.0 firmware.

Step 9 : Click “Just boot” at the top of the Extras menu. This will perform a tethered boot on your device.

Step 10 : Once it is booted, swipe to the second Home screen page, Open Cydia, select Developer, and start using!

But do remember that it is a tethered jailbreak and you should likely do the steps to boot tethered as mentioned in the guide everytime you reboot your device! If you don’t want to do this kind of stuff, wait with patience for a few days to get the untethered jailbreak!
