A worm named “Priyanka” is spreading across WhatsApp users – Here’s a fix

If you are a big fan of WhatsApp, then beware of this virus named “Priyanka” spreading through your contacts file. It was reported by Naked security, that priyanka worm will quickly add to your contact list and will change the name of contacts and groups in your list. Few victims have also reported that, the worm goes extreme by replacing the contact name as “Priyanka”. To prevent yourself from the attack, just ignore the message and do not install any file that came along with the message. The virus doesn’t install on your device by itself and but it needs the user to save contact. So if you just ignore the message or doesn’t save the contact, you are safe enough. But what if you have read this article after the attack? Here’s a quick fix.

Step 1: Disable internet connectivity on your device; whether via WiFi, mobile data. You should also disable Bluetooth tethering, so that the worm doesn’t spread to your contacts list.

Step 2: Check whether you have added any contact named “Priyanka

Step 3: Jump to your Settings menu > Apps or Application Manager > WhatsApp

Step 4: Select Force Stop.

Step 5: Select Clear data

WhatsApp will be started as newly. Follow the setup and it should automatically restore conversations.

Update: 

The recent update from WhatsApp seem to have fixed the issue.
