Download Windows 8 or 8.1 and create a Bootable USB/DVD disk

Updated on September 1, 2017

For so many days, we have always downloaded the Windows iso and then used some software to convert it into a bootable disk. Now, Microsoft has fixed this problem and it allows you to create a bootable USB/DVD with much ease. Before proceeding to download Windows 8.x, remember to have your product key in hand!

  • Go to the URL below.

  • Select the version you need and an executable will be downloaded to your system.
  • Launch the exe file and it will ask you for the product key.

  • After that, the executable  will show you the apt version of Windows compatible with the system attached to the product key.
  • Then the setup program will download the copy of Windows you choose.
  • You should now be asked to choose the type of installation (install now, later, or create media)

  • Choose Create media. And in the next step you can either choose to put the installer directly onto a USB drive or create an ISO file, which you can burn to a DVD.

  • We will choose USB. And this will create a bootable USB disk.

Note: When the installer is writing to USB, you might notice a folder called ESD of around 3GB of space in the root of your drive. Do not remove the folder until completion, since the installer might not work if you delete this folder.
