You can choose to remove advertisements on Facebook, but at a cost of monthly fee

Are you distracted with the contextual advertisements on your Facebook profile? Well, you can choose to remove them, but be ready to pay a monthly fee to Facebook. According to the recent patent filed by the company, the users who are willing to get some useful space on their profile can pay monthly fee to do so. The company will remove the advertisements that hogging and allow you to add one or more social networking objects to your profile. The patent titled “Paid Profile Personalization”, says,

“The user may select one or more social networking objects to replace advertisements or other elements that are normally displayed to visitors of the user’s profile page that are otherwise controlled by the social networking system. In particular embodiments, the user may edit elements on their profile page that are otherwise automatically generated and controlled in design and content by the social networking system. In particular embodiments, the user is billed on a recurring basis for profile personalization.”

And if the user chooses to replace the advertisements with one or more social networking elements or objects, then the profile will look like the below illustration,

Though the patent clearly shows the intent of the company for making some money, but Facebook claims that,

“Permitting such functionality improves the overall user experience while maximizing revenue to the social networking system.”
